What Is Critical illness Indurance?

As the number of people surviving critical illness climbs, so does the number of personal bankruptcies brought about by the costs of recovery—in fact, about 50% of personal bankruptcies are due to critical illness.1 Critical illness insurance, like the one offered by Stonebridge Life Insurance Company, was created to provide families with extra financial support to help maintain their standard of living during this costly and difficult time. Learn about our Critical Illness Insurance, how critical illness insurance fills the gaps not covered by your health insurance and disability, our "details of coverage ," and the critical illnesses we cover.

What Is Critical Illness Insurance?

Critical illness insurance is a type of supplemental coverage. It gives you a one-time payment if you're diagnosed with a covered cancer, heart attack, stroke or paralysis. That's money you can use however you want, to help fill the gaps your health insurance and disability don't cover. It's for all the additional expenses that may occur.

Critical illness insurance was developed a little over a decade ago -- by a doctor who saw firsthand the effects of critical illness on his patients' families and their finances.2

Plan Features

One-time payment on diagnosis

The money is yours to spend on what you need. It's a simple process. You submit a claim when you're diagnosed with a covered critical illness, and we'll pay you the benefits promptly. It doesn't matter if you're receiving benefits from other types of insurance. Critical Illness Insurance is designed to give you extra support when you need it most -- to help pay additional expenses your other insurance plans may not cover.

Benefits paid whether you're employed or not

Critical Illness Insurance is not tied to an employer; so as long as premiums are paid, it stays in effect regardless of your job status: full-time, part-time, or in between jobs.

Return of Premium option

If you apply before age 50, you'll get all your paid premiums back if you select the Return of Premium option and don't make a claim by age 65. Return of Premium is a one-time payment equaling all the money you paid in premiums over the life of your policy. Guaranteed. It's a win-win situation.**
